Fashion Faux Pas: What You Should Never Wear On a First Date

first date AnastasiaDate

Choosing what to wear on a first date is not a difficult decision just for women, it is a nightmare for men as well and getting it right or wrong can decide whether you get a second date. A lot depends on what you are intending on doing on your first date, but let’s assume you are playing it safe and going for dinner or drinks in a nice bar, what are the main fashion mistakes you should be sure to avoid. Read on to find out more.

1. Cheap, pointy, fake-leather shoes with jeans.

If you walk into any bar on a Friday night, you are sure to spot lots of offenders. That does not mean that wearing pointy, shiny shoes with jeans is ok just because other people are doing it. Make no mistake that it is a huge no-no and one that should be avoided at all costs. You are not a pixie; you are a fully grown man, and as such, you should leave your pixie shoes at home.

2. Stonewashed jeans.

1983 called, and they want their jeans back. Please, for the love of all that is good and great in this world, do NOT wear stonewashed or pre-faded jeans in public, let alone on a date. They are not cool, they are not fashionable, they are not flattering, and they don’t look good with everything. Bin them and bring your wardrobe kicking and screaming into 2016.

3. White socks.

Unless you are off to play a few sets of tennis with your date, there is no reason to wear white socks. Nothing’s screams ‘NOPE’ like a bit of white sock poking out from underneath some stonewashed jeans. There are millions of perfectly nice black socks in the world, stick to them unless you are playing center court in this year’s Wimbledon tournament.

4. Fake designer t-shirts.

As far as I can recall, Gucci have never, ever made a line of shiny, Lycra, skin-tight shirts with their logo emblazoned across the front. No one will think you are an off duty billionaire with impeccable taste in designer couture and a multi-million dollar super yacht moored up in the nearest marina. If you want to wear labels, make sure they are real, tasteful and low key.

5. Too much hair product.

No woman wants to risk being stuck like a fly in a spiderweb if she happens to get too close to you so remember to ease up on the gel and hairspray. By all means, make sure you look perfectly coiffed and put together. But there is nothing sexy about crinkly, crusty, over styled hair.
